Leicester Comedy Festival

South Indian cuisine and comedy are not things that you would necessarily put together but in Leicester the combination has not only been honored by awards, it has also been enjoyed by hundreds of people around UK. Kayal restaurant was chosen as a venue for the comedy festival since it is opened as Halli now an essential part of the annual Leicester Comedy Festival and was honored as such when it won the Best New Venue award as part of the 2007 post-festival awards.

Each February the Thomman’s Hall - the in house function room of Kayal Restaurant – is taken over by promoter Spiky Mike who puts on an exciting range of comedy shows ranging from the best newcomers to the stars of tomorrow. In February 2007, a show (Ivan Brackenbury) premiered at the venue which then went on to win prestigious comedy awards and national acclaim.

Festival Director Geoff Rowe said “we love Kayal! The Thomman’s Hall is one of my personal favorites in terms of venues for comedy. It’s beautifully decorated and has an intimacy which is so important for comedy. Part of the reason we love the place is because of the staff; one word sums them up which is “amazing”. They are so welcoming and supportive and helpful. I guess the other reason why we love the place is the food. You couldn’t get further away from the “comedy in a basket” clubs where they serve you basic food together with some very basic comedy. I know acts return to the venue time and time again partly because they love playing the room but also because they get an amazing meal!”

This year the Leicester Comedy Festival will take place at Thomman’s Hall from 6th – 15th February 2009.

Also Spiky Mike organizes many Comedy shows at the same venue throughout the year with various famous Comedians. Please check his website or contact his office to find out the dates and time.
